Casey Neistat is a modern American video blogger, a real-life “millionaire from the slums”, a person who managed to achieve success without any education and financial investments.

Biography of Casey Neistat

Casey was born March 25, 1981 in Connecticut to a poor Jewish family. There he was the fifth child and could not hope for financial support from his parents in the future. Moreover, despite the situation in the family, Neistat did not want to study, believing that life itself should be his main teacher.

It is not surprising that books in his life played far from the main role. The boy did not want to fit into the generally accepted framework, he was always drawn to adventure and extraordinary deeds. Perhaps this was the reason that Casey was able to study at school only until the age of 17, after which he left it without receiving a complete secondary education.

At the same time, he leaves his family and begins a life together with his girlfriend Robin Harris. At the age of 17, Casey became a father. Together with Robin, they raised their son, living for three years in a squalid trailer outside the city. This period was quite difficult for the young family, since now Neistat had to financially provide not only himself, but also his wife and baby.

He took on any job: from a cook of quick orders in a cafe to a dishwasher in a fish restaurant. Casey also worked as a courier and did many other unskilled jobs. At the same time, Neistat dreams of moving to New York and is trying in every possible way to save up at least some funds for this.

At the same time, the desire to create films does not leave him, Casey is sure that he has something to show people. Information technology at that time had already spread with might and main not only in America, but throughout the world. This became a possible budgetary way to realize the potential of Neistat on the Internet.

Casey has long been a good family man, despite the lack of an official marriage to Robin Harris.

But the press knows the fact about his frivolous marriage to Candice Poole. It lasted about a month and ended in an annulment. It happened in 2005 in Houston, Texas.

After Neistat nevertheless returned to his first love and got engaged to her on February 18, 2013, and on December 29, 2013, Casey and Robin got married in Cape Town, South Africa. In addition to son Owen, the blogger’s wife gave him two more daughters – Francine and Georgie.

Career Development

The first work that is known to the media was a joint project of Casey and his brother. They filmed installations and sculptures by artist Tom Sachs. But the world popularity of Neistat was brought by a project called “Dirty Secret”. This video lasted three minutes and was devoted to criticism of Apple.

Neistat had an iPod battery problem that only lasted a year and a half. The fact is that the Apple consultant, with whom the conversation was filmed, recommended that Casey buy a new iPod, since the cost of replacing the battery is approximately equal to the cost of replacing it. The mini-movie was posted online on September 20, 2003 and quickly attracted media attention.

The reaction of the manufacturer did not have to wait long. Already in November of this year, Apple announces a battery replacement policy and its warranty service. This is how an amateur video of ordinary users could make a world famous company worry.

A year later, in 2004, the brothers released a series of films called “Scientific Experiments”. The 15-minute series featured several short films describing various experiments. Surprisingly, these videos were devoid of any special effects and graphic editing, the actors did not participate in them, and only a simple video camera was available to the brothers from the equipment.

Despite this, gradually the authors find their followers, their financial condition is improving. The idea of simple home videos is slowly transforming into a profitable business. Already in 2008, HBO purchased the eight-episode television series The Brothers Neistat for just under $2 million. It was an autobiographical show told in the first person. The careers of successful video creators are booming, and in 2014, Neistat was included in New Media Rockstars’ top 100 channels, ranking 82nd.

Casey Neistat’s own blog

Since the spring of 2015, the world has known Casey as a daily vlogger on YouTube. By the beginning of 2016, he has already uploaded 300 videos.

Interestingly, in most of the videos, the author cannot be seen without glasses. At the same time, the glasses are always large and creative, complementing the original style of the author.

On January 23, 2016, during a snowstorm, Neistat makes a video called “Snowboarding with the NYPD” where he is towed on a rope through the streets and through Times Square, after which a police officer forgives him. The video became a sensation and gained 6.5 million views on YouTube in just 6 hours.

But on November 19, 2016, Neistat announced that he was canceling his regular blog to focus more on short films and try new formats.

On September 6, 2016, Neistat receives the GQ “New Media Star” award in the “Person of the Year” nomination.

For three years (from 2015 to 2018), the number of subscribers on Casey’s YouTube channel increases from 1 to 10 million. This is a flawless success in the world of vlogging.
