Biography of Clovis Cornillac. Early years
Clovis Cornillac was born in Lyon on August 16, 1967. He is the son of the famous actress Miriam Boye and director Roger Cornillac. In 1971, Miriam became interested in actor and director John Berry, whom she soon married. By decision of his parents, the five-year-old Clovis went to his grandmother in Paris, where he spent his childhood.
In Paris, the boy went to school and boxed. He, in his own words, never experienced a lack of parental love, in his free time from filming, his mother and father visited him, besides, his mother’s American husband, John, loved him like his own son.
Career. Start
In 1981, Clovis graduated from elementary school and made his television debut in the television drama mini-series Pierrot’s Childhood, which starred his mother. Despite the expectation of his parents, the young man did not enter a theater school, but became a member of the troupe of a small private theater, where he played in classical productions, improving his natural talent.
The contrast of the appearance of a circus strongman and subtle mental organization, coupled with a unique gift for reincarnation, attracted the attention of producers to the young Cornillac, and in 1984 the self-taught actor was offered the role of one of the bandits in Robin Davis’ crime drama The Criminal. From 1985 to 1997, he starred in the films “Bad Handling”, “The Unbearable Lightness of Being”, “Lovers”, “Follow This Plane” and others, and also participated in television series and popular shows. By the age of thirty, Clovis was a fairly recognizable actor in France, but the first real success came to him in 1999 after the release of the film Carnival. In the role of the alcoholic Christian, the jealous husband of the circus performer Bea, played by Sylvie Testu, he managed to demonstrate the talent of a great dramatic actor, and film critics noted his subtle play, calling Cornillac the hope of French cinema.
